Map of ethnic composition in Iraq. We used maps produced by Dr. Michael Izady and hosted by the Gulf/2000 Project at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (http://gulf2000.columbia.edu/maps.shtml) for ethnic groups in Iraq (http://gulf2000.columbia.edu/images/maps/Iraq_Ethnic_lg.jpg) and ethnic groups in 2003 Baghdad (http://gulf2000.columbia.edu/images/maps/Baghdad_Ethnic_2003_lg.jpg), and Central Iraq (http://gulf2000.columbia.edu/images/maps/Central_Iraq_Ethnic_lg.jpg) to produce a shapefile reflecting Iraq's ethnic composition by district. This was then intersected with high-resolution population data (LandScan 2008) to produce population data by ethnicity and district.
