GIS vector dataset of ethno-religious areas in Iraq, based on "Distribution of Ethnoreligious Groups and Tribes, CIA Country Profile, 2003."and "Ethnoreligious Groups, CIA, 1992." We combine high-resolution population data (LandScan 2008) and maps that bound areas in which ethnic groups reside to estimate ethnic group population numbers. The boundaries of Iraq’s districts and governorates are designed to conform the boundaries recognized and observed in the household surveys administered by the United Nations World Food Programme. Our shapefiles were used in Berman, Shapiro, Felter (2011).
