Patrick B. Johnston (Ph.D. Northwestern University) is currently a Political Scientist at the RAND Corporation and was an ESOC post-doctoral scholar in 2010/11. Johnston specializes in counterinsurgency and counterterrorism, with a particular focus on Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Philippines. His articles have been published or are forthcoming in numerous journals, including American Economic Review: Papers & Proceedings, Civil Wars, International Security, Security Studies, and Studies in Conflict & Terrorism. In addition to ESOC, Johnston has held fellowships at Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation, and the United States Institute of Peace. He has also served as a consultant to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
