Hanjatiana Nirina Randrianarisoa (Nirina) was an ESOC Predoctoral Research Specialist and part of the first cohort of the Fellowship for Data-driven Research (FDR). During the 10-week FDR training, Nirina developed critical research skills such as Natural Language Processing with Python and GIS data analysis in R. He worked on different projects on Development Finance and misinformation under ESOC faculty members: Ethan Kapstein, Kristopher Ramsay, and Jacob Shapiro. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and Economics from Trinity College in Hartford CT. Nirina’s undergraduate economics thesis focused on tariff reductions or eliminations and their impact on informal markets, with an empirical focus on Egypt and Kenya. His research interests include topics in international trade and development economics.
