Elizabeth Hastings is a Ph.D. student in economics at the University of California, San Diego. Her research interests include defense procurement, the role of economic development in conflict zones, and the political economy of corruption in developing countries. As an officer in the U.S. Air Force, she negotiated D.O.D. procurement contracts, both within the U.S. and while deployed, in support of counterinsurgency, humanitarian and civic assistance operations. Elizabeth also served on the faculty of the U.S. Air Force Academy Department of Economics and Geosciences. B.A./M.A. economics, Boston University.
