Daniel Egel

Daniel Egel was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation in 2010-2011. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2010. His research focuses on understanding development in the Middle East and North Africa with a particular interest in understanding the role that social institutions play and have played in this region's development. Egel's most recent work examines the role of the tribes in Yemen's development. He has also been involved in a variety of rural development projects in Yemen and has co-authored several policy briefs and articles focusing on youth issues in Iran and Yemen. Egel is currently an Associate Economist at the RAND Corporation.
